Do You Know Someone in Florida?

If you live in Florida, please visit our page for people who live in Florida. If not, you can still help with our Grassroots Activation Initiative. Tell your friends and family that you need their help in working for Puerto Rico statehood.

Why Florida?

Florida is a swing state, which makes it important in the upcoming presidential election. Many states pretty much always vote red or blue, and candidates might not make many efforts after the primaries. But Florida can go either way, so candidates will be paying attention. As candidate Michael Bloomberg said, “The road to the White House goes through Florida.”

Florida also has the largest Puerto Rican population in the 50 states. Current senators and members of Congress know their constituents care about what happens to Puerto Rico. They want to connect with and support their constituents… but they may not understand that statehood is the preferred option.

Candidates for the House and Senate in 2020 also know — or need to get the knowledge — that Florida’s voters want statehood for Puerto Rico, and will support candidates who support statehood.

What should you ask?

First, ask your friends and family to register to vote. Their official voter registration page is available in Spanish and English, and they can check there and make sure they are registered to vote in Florida. Voters matter. The people representing Florida in Washington care about the opinions of the people who can vote for them.

Then ask your Floridian connections to reach out to their representatives.

Here’s the list of the most critical legislators and how to reach them:

You can also email your senators with the tool on the Florida Senators page. On this page, there is a draft email that you can send automatically to your senators.

  • Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL-03)
    • Phone: 202-225-5744
    • Twitter: @RepTedYoho
    • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CongressmanTedYoho/

You can also reach out to your members of Congress with our Contact Your Legislators tool. This tool will send an email to your congressperson, even if you’re not sure who that is.

No matter where you live, you can reach out to your representatives. We hope you will ask your friends and family in Florida to do the same.
