Presidential candidates for 2020 are piling up.

Residents of Puerto Rico cannot vote in presidential elections, but can vote in primaries. People born in Puerto Rico and living in a state, like all U.S. citizens living in states, can vote in both primaries and presidential elections.
So what should you ask candidates, to make sure your choice is a friend to Puerto Rico?
- Do you support statehood for Puerto Rico? We asked all the candidates this question and have not yet received answers. We will keep asking. So should you. And don’t accept any mugwump answers.
- Puerto Rico voted for statehood in 2012 and 2017 and formally requested statehood in 2018. Are you ready to take action on this matter?
- Did you know that Puerto Rico has already voted for statehood twice?
- Have you supported Puerto Rico in the past? You can check any candidate’s voting record if they’ve held public office.
- Do you think the current territory status is good for Puerto Rico?
The truth is, many Americans are still confused about Puerto Rico. We can’t expect every presidential candidate to be clear on the nuances of “enhanced commonwealth” or unincorporated territories. But they should all know that Puerto Rico has voted for and officially requested statehood. And they should all, because of that, support statehood for Puerto Rico.
