Rob Bishop, Raul Grijalva, Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon, Doug LaMalfa, and Don Young have written to the Department of Justice asking that the federally-sponsored plebiscite approved in 2014 take place.

The letter asks for a yes or no vote on statehood, like the votes taken in Hawaii and Alaska before they were admitted as states.

“After 120 years under the American flag and 101 years of American citizenship,” the letter concludes, “resolution of the question of Puerto Rico’s ultimate status is long past due.”
