The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida will host the annual Political Salsa, a non-partisan event that gives Florida voters — and especially the growing community of Puerto Rican voters — a chance to meet this year’s political candidates face to face. It’s a networking event, an educational opportunity, and a celebration.
The event will take place at El Centro Borincano in Orlando, Florida, Tuesday August 16th, and 5:30 p.m. This year, the event will also be streamed live for those outside the area.
There will be a panel of journalists, including Scott Powers with the Orlando Sentinel, Guillermo Hanson with the Osceola Star, Frank Torres with the Orlando Political Observer, Christine Figueroa with La Prensa, and William Diaz with WONQ Radio, the host of “Cara y Cara”.
The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida is an organization of attorneys determined to make a difference in issues affecting the Puerto Rican community in Florida. Since 2003, this organization has been working to strengthen the political and civil rights of Puerto Ricans in Florida and in the United States as a whole.
Florida is now home to more than one million individuals of Puerto Rican heritage, the largest number in any of the 50 states. This will be an important group of voters in this year’s elections, including the presidential election. Residents of Puerto Rico cannot vote in presidential elections, so Puerto Rico voters on the mainland have an important opportunity to provide a voice to the Island. Political Salsa gives these voters a chance to learn more about the candidates, issues, and political parties that will be on the ballot this year.
