Looking Ahead

Our 2025 report shows significant accomplishments.  The Puerto Rico Statehood Council, PR51st’s sponsoring organization, made real strides in education and advocacy with Congress, grassroots activism, and media communication across the nation and the world.

Highlights of the year

• March 2025 brought the first Puerto Rico Equality and Statehood Summit, hosted by the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) and the Governor of Puerto Rico,  the Hon. Jenniffer González-Colón. As a lead sponsor, PRSC had the opportunity to collaborate with 57 other organizations and hundreds of advocates from Puerto Rico and multiple states. Together, we held more than 80 congressional meetings, sharing the truth about Puerto Rico’s 2024 status vote and urging representatives to respect the Island’s vote and take action.
• Throughout the year, PRSC held more than 50 meetings with Congressional offices and federal officials and took part in dozens of federal and state events. We know that one of the great barriers to Puerto Rico’s admission as a state is a lack of information among legislators. We did our part to help raise awareness; we know that you’re doing your part, too. If you haven’t yet reached out to your representatives, do it now.
• The Puerto Rico Statehood Action Network, of which PRSC is a member, continued to work for grassroots advocacy, fostering connections among activists nationwide and providing support and training to increase individual effectiveness and amplify individual voices. We also joined a new activist organization in Puerto Rico, PRO Statehood. In-person events on the Island help to mobilize communities in Puerto Rico.
• One of our new initiatives this year was the Letters for Statehood: America United Campaign. More than 400 of you joined this effort, resulting in letters to the editor in local news sources across the nation.
• PRSC also developed the first season of our podcast, Mano a Mano: U.S. & Puerto Rico Journey Toward a More Perfect Union. If you’re not already a subscriber, find us on YouTube, Spotify, or here on PR51st to join more than 79,000 listeners and viewers.
• Through the PR51st website PRSC welcomed over 250,000 visitors. With 159 articles and 1,716 social media posts across multiple social media platforms, we received over 340,000 views. Add in the interviews and opinion pieces in major mainstream news sources, and we have been able to reach hundreds of thousands of people with honest, fact-based information about Puerto Rico’s need for equality and justice through statehood.

What’s ahead?

New Year’s resolutions? Not really. These are our plans for the new year.

• Introduce and advance legislation that includes a binding offer of statehood for Puerto Rico.
• Continue growing & empowering the Puerto Rico statehood movement.
• Help Puerto Rico reach its full potential while making America a More Perfect Union.

We can’t go back. Join us as we move forward toward statehood, the best outcome for Puerto Rico.
