The City University of New York held a discussion on Puerto Rico, the effects of and response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and how Puerto Rico’s status debate compares with that of Catalonia.

Bob Liff speaks with experts Howard Hills, author of Citizens Without A State, Maria Perez y Gonzalez, and Jaime Estades.

“Whether he intended it or not,” Liff said, “President Trump has refocused attention on Puerto Rican status.”

Independentistas, a significant group in New York but not in Puerto Rico, and statehood supporters discuss Puerto Rico in depth. They also answer questions from the audience.
