The statehood movement is growing, and support for making Puerto Rico the 51st state is stronger than ever before. Now, we want to hear from you.

After bringing citizen advocates from all over the U.S. to Washington, D.C., for the annual Statehood Summit earlier this year, we’re shifting the focus of our national grassroots movement to your own backyard.

That’s why we’re launching a new initiative calling on statehood supporters from across the country to speak up for Puerto Rico statehood in your hometown newspapers and media outlets — where your elected officials learn the most about what is happening in their states and districts.

Letters for Statehood: America United

Our new Letters for Statehood: America United campaign is seeking local voices who are interested in signing letters to the editor and contributing opinion pieces in your hometown outlets sharing why statehood for Puerto Rico matters. Expressing support for statehood at the local level is one of the best ways you can boost the recent momentum surrounding the Puerto Rico status issue. And you can now add your voice to this critical effort.

Signing up to participate is easy. Just fill out our short online form and share some background information or a personal story about why statehood matters to you. Our team employs a variety of methods to obtain local media coverage in ways that will engage key federal legislators in their home states and districts. If an opportunity arises to elevate your voice, we will reach out with more information on how you can take the next step.

With tens of thousands of statehood supporters from every state in the U.S., now is the time to get loud. From coast to coast, your communities are connected to the island in countless ways. The longer Puerto Rico’s status remains unresolved, the greater the impact on these businesses, workers, and families. Local voices matter — and your stories can make a difference. We want to give you a platform to let lawmakers know that statehood for Puerto Rico matters to Americans from all walks of life, not just those on the island or in Washington.

We have already successfully connected local citizen advocates — from educators, to activists, to veterans — with their hometown papers and online media outlets throughout the country, but we remain far from our goal of putting statehood front and center for the leaders making decisions on Puerto Rico’s future. That’s why we need you to get loud and get on the record with your support.

Our work in Congress remains crucial, and you can support those efforts by taking our national movement local and backing statehood in the communities your elected officials serve. Add your name to the Letters for Statehood: America United initiative today.
