Rep. Tom Reed is the latest cosponsor for HR 1522, the Puerto Rico Statehood Admissions Act. The Republican representative from New York has been in Congress since 2010.

Reed is a conservative Republican and a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. His support for the Puerto Rico Statehood Admissions Act belies the claims that statehood for Puerto Rico is a left-wing or even a Democratic priority.

Instead, it is a matter of justice and human rights. Reed’s recent statement saying that he is committed to “unity, respect, and civility” meshes with his support for statehood.

78 Cosponsors

HR 1522 now has 78 cosponsors, including 60 Democrats and 18 Republicans.  They come from 29 different states and territories.

If your Member of Congress has not yet committed to support HR 1522, please write to them, tweet them, call them, or visit them. They represent you, and your support can make a difference.
